Memorials
EAA memorials are an enduring tribute to those individuals that embody the true legacy of aviation. Striking symbols of timeless EAA values, they serve as an honor to aviation enthusiasts.
You too can be a part of these everlasting aviation acknowledgements by supporting the following EAA memorials:
• Compass Hill symbolizes the love of flight shared between generations. At the summit stands “Directions,” a life-size, striking bronze sculpture of a family on an aviation outing. At its base, a large compass rose pays a timeless tribute to the innovation, passion and freedom associated with personal flight. The inner portion of the rose is made of personally inscribed bricks that support EAA’s endowment fund and are available for a donation of $1,000 or more. Personalized bricks are also available at the entry plaza across from Memorial Wall for a donation of $500 or more.
• Memorial Wall is dedicated to special individuals whose passion for flight positively impacted the lives of those they touched. It provides a dignified place for families and friends to remember and honor their loved ones. The wall’s centerpiece is formed by thousands of stones brought to Oshkosh by EAA members worldwide. Each year, bronze plaques are installed on the wall, honoring those who have "gone west" with individual inscriptions. A donation of $350 secures both an inscription on the current year's plaque and two dedication pages in the perpetual memory album.
To honor the legacy of the Memorial Wall's inductees, EAA conducts an annual dedication service on the last Sunday of EAA AirVenture. This service includes a solemn reading of new names, a breathtaking “Serenity of a Missing Man” formation flight overhead and the playing of Taps.
Memorial Wall
Applications to become a Memorial Wall inductee must be received by April 1 for the current year's dedication services.
